BlackBerry Traffic updated to v3.0.2.18 bringing multiple bug fixes

BlackBerry Traffic

Research In Motion released a small update to their popular BlackBerry Traffic app. This update brings the app to v3.0.2.18 and includes bug fixes for both a text UI bug and power management. If you were seeing either of these bugs with the last release you will definitely want to grab this update in BlackBerry App World and put an end to those pesky problems.

BlackBerry Traffic is a great app for your device. With options like giving you your ETA based on current traffic conditions, alternate routes to avoid toll booths, voice guidance, and the ability to send your estimated ETA to contacts via SMS, email, or PIN, you will wonder how you ever travelled without it! Quick Tip: Updating your BlackBerry to a different carrier's OS? Make sure you delete BOTH vendor files

Windows Device Update

As I found out earlier this morning, installing another carrier's OS on your BlackBerry isn't as easy as downloading and deleting the vendor.xml file -- now you have to delete both vendor files. It seems that in one of the updates to BlackBerry Desktop Manager, the vendor.xml file is not only located in one folder, but two. In the past you simply had to delete the lone vendor file and you were well on your way to a clean install with either BlackBerry Desktop Manager or App Loader. Now however, you'll need to dive in a bit more before your PC will see the OS - keep reading and we'll tell you how to seek and destroy (ok, find and delete) those pesky vendor.xml files.

Now this obviously is only for Windows PCs since you can't install a new OS from a Mac.

Navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\ApploaderFrom there, remove the vendor.xml file

Next, make sure you can view hidden files and folders in Windows Explorer (Tools > Folder Options > View > Show hidden files and folders)

Then, depending on your version of Windows:

On Windows Vista/7 navigate to C:\Users\YOUR_USER\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML (Where "YOUR_USER" is your username)On Windows XP navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR_USER\Application Data\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML (Where "YOUR_USER" is your username)

Remove the vendor.xml file and you're done! Now fire up Deskop Manager or App Loader and you should be able to find the new OS and install away!

Leap into adventure with Frogatto for the BlackBerry PlayBook!

Frogatto for BlackBerry PlayBook

Last week at the Game Developers Conference, Research In Motion showed off a fun modification of the BlackBerry Remote, using it to control a game on a PlayBook that was displayed on a larger TV. Of course, the main story was about the modification, which was actually a d-pad controller designed by an engineer at RIM. However, there was a lot of discussion surrounding the game that was being played in the picture, and with a little research (thanks @Alexkinsella!) we found out the name of the game was Frogatto.

This game is a classic side-scroll 2D platform game where you are Frogatto, a cute little frog on a mission to find, of all things, a job. Along the way to the town you will find adventure as well as things to buy, puzzles you have to solve, and more!  There are a ton of levels, and lots to do and see in the game so this is one that should keep you occupied for some time. It's also great for all ages though there is a bit of reading involved so younger kids may need a bit of help.

Features:

grab enemies with your tongue and spit them to deal damagebuy powerups to enhance and unlock new abilitiesarcade mode, giving instant access to action-only gameplay on randomized levelsforgiving savegame/respawn system so you don't have to be afraid of losing progressplayful dialogue writing that tries not to insult your intelligencemassive soundtrack with over an hour of original musicsprawling, complex world with over 50 levels to explore, and tons of secrets to find

Developed by Lost Pixel, Frogatto wasn't available last week when we saw the demo, but as of today you can pick it up in BlackBerry App World for $4.99 for your BlackBerry PlayBook (which is the same as it would cost for an iOS device, by the way).
